What is the purpose of blepharoplasty?

The purpose is to tighten loose, sagging skin and removing excess fat from the eye area.  This is done to both the upper and lower eye area, but is most popular in the upper area.  Blepharoplasty can also lift and tighten skin that droops down and obstructs the visual field.  This surgery also can improve the patients peripheral vision.

What is the difference between a single (mono) lid and a double lid?

The levator muscle is not attached when someone has a monolid and with a double lidthe muscle is attached.

What are the surgery techniques for double (Asian) eyelid surgery?
There is the incisional technique which permanently attaches the lid to the levator muscle and there is also the suture technique which uses sutures to create a fold.

Which technique is better?
Some surgeons believe the incisional technique is the best because the crease behaves more naturally since the muscle is permanently attached to the lid.  Although some patients may prefer the suture technique because the healing process is faster.  Over the years, there have been major advances in both the suture and incisional technique, so it is best to speak with your doctor to see which is the best technique for you.

Does the fold go on the inside or outside corner for
Asian eyelid surgery?
The inside corner of the eye is the most common place for Asian people to have their crease begin.  The inside corner crease is considered to be more natural looking.  Beginning the crease above the corner fold makes the eyes look bigger, thus looking less natural on an Asian face.

What is the most popular crease height for double eyelid surgery?
The most popular height is a small crease, which is a height of 6-8 mm.  It is popular because it is the most natural look.  The other heights are a medium crease of 7-9mm and a high crease at 8-10mm.  As the hight increases the less common it becomes.

How long does the surgery take for an incison technique?
It is a very short surgery and only takes about 1.5-2 hours. After the surgery,  you will be asked to rest in a recovery room for about 30 minutes before being able to leave.

Do I have to go under anesthesia for the double eylid surgery?
No, you don't have to go under anesthesia, however a local anesthetic will be applied.  Some patients also choose to take a sedative to help relax during the surgery.

What will the surgeon remove from my eye?
The surgeon will remove a small amount of skin and fat from the eyelids.

How will I feel after my double eyelid surgery?
You will feel minimal discomfort after your surgery.  Your eyes will be swollen for 1-2 weeks but the swelling should be gone after 2-3 weeks.  However, your crease will appear to be higher than where you expected it.  Don't worry, it will gradually go down to the correct location.
